Review: Akinyemi & Birocratic – Time

Akinyemi has been making waves in the New York Hip Hop scene, his debut EP released last year using sounds not usually heard in Hip Hop. He’s daring to be different, and I’m certain he’s destined for great things.

For the new single ‘Time’ we see Akinyemi team up with Birocratic, a Brooklyn producer who brings his influences from Jazz, Fusion and Hip Hop to create something special. Biro’s style in his solo work is very cool, smooth and laid back and well worth checking out.

‘Time’ is about taking time for yourself amongst the relentless lives we lead. Akinyemi & Birocratic have a natural chemistry, Akinyemi’s rap flows well with Birocratic’s synth stabs and beats. The track feels both relentless and smooth and works with the subject matter as intended. It’s a welcome change from the saturation of trap style beats and shows what Hip Hop is capable of becoming with a bit of imagination.

This is a promising debut from this collaboration and I hope it’s the first of many.

‘Time’ is available at all retailers now, and you can find more about Akinyemi & Birocratic at the links below.
