Review: Gozer Goodspeed – Impossible To Pick Up EP

Gozer Goodspeed must be the busiest man on the South West gigging scene, he played over 75 shows last year and his calendar for this year is no different. Despite his schedule he has just released his latest EP ‘Impossible To Pick Up’. It follows on from 2017’s ‘Barrel Headlong Into The Night’ which was well received and he has also recorded a ‘Live in Session’ for BBC Introducing.

Impossible To Pick Up is an acoustic EP, Gozer’s style has been described as anything from alt-folk to blues. For me, there are clearly influences from acoustic blues in the guitar but as a whole the songs are a mix of indie, pop and folk. There are some nice grooves on ‘Keep Your Expectations Low’ and ‘Survivor by Habit’ which see Gozer move away from a traditional folk sound.

Overall, this is an interesting release. It combines his influences and delivers a good mix of what he is capable of, good songwriting accompanied by mastery of his guitar.
